We feel powerless when we have lost our self respect, self acceptance and confidence.
There seems to be so much these days in the media about the mental health side of the health system appearing to fail their clients with huge inadequacies being pointed out, as well as workplace bullying and the inadequacies that surround that situation. I also continue to hear horror stories of parents and children’s needs not being met when their child is bullied at school, whether this is by other children or by staff. I hear stories of children who are manipulating their parents, creating conflict, heartache and distress for the family. Yes there are wonderful stories out there, however so much seems to add to the powerlessness that people already feel. And there ARE solutions to powerlessness that do not require surgery, medication, cost an arm or a leg or require you to visit some exotic or isolated place.
The thing that is obvious to me is feelings of powerlessness. This then leads to anger, frustrations, resentment and this in turn leads to re-activeness and choices being made that are not as healthy or harmonious as they could be, or just as bad as or worse than where they were.
People try to resolve situations, in ways that further contribute to feelings of powerlessness. Choice being taken away from people, even the fact that people are not encouraged to think for themselves.
There is a saying that "If we do not use it we will lose it!" People are losing their ability to think and reason for themselves, they rely on others to warn them, to tell them how to keep safe. We are losing our ability to think and feel for ourselves. We see this in the over zealousness of the health & safety changes, in the abundance of road signs warning of dangers. It seems as if people are being led to believe they have to rely on signposts, instead of their own judgment, and this then turns to blame when something happens and a person will say, there was no warning sign! Where is your mind, where are your thoughts? Are you actually here, present and awake?
People want to feel connected, heard, valued, appreciated and respected. This includes the ability to think for themselves, to discover for themselves.
People are very resilient, creative and resourceful.
They have the answers inside – yes you read that right. And I agree with you, it seems impossible that you have inside you the resources to empower you.
However I discovered, in my desperation along the way out of misery, pain – mental, emotional and physical – criticism, judgment, depression, sadness, anger, resentment, disrespect, and feeling blamed and shamed, that I did have the answers inside me, I just had to find the right questions, be honest and willing enough to keep going, keep asking, keep trying until I found the solutions for each step along the way....and I did!
People are feeling unsupported, undervalued and unappreciated and this powerlessness contributes to the desperation for someone to “fix them and their situation”, rather than giving support and help to find solutions that will help them as well as serve them to live an empowered life.
And I want to share with you how I found the solutions, because I know it works and I also know how important it is to have a guide, cheerleader and support when we are going into unknown territory. I do not tell you what to do, I help you to become more aware of your own signposts, so you can see the way again.
I feel that society is generally appearing to disconnect us, to fill us with fear, to
un-socialise us very social creatures. It appears to be creating lots of finger pointing, blaming, shaming and judgment and creating conflict.
I recall the saying “Give a man a fish, and he will have food for a day, teach a man to fish and he will never go hungry again”
I help people to see the solutions their feelings of powerlessness can provide them to turn their lives around and leave the nightmare they seem to be living behind.
How do we do this?
