So often we bring our yesterday into today, or our past years into today. If you do it is likely to destroy your future. One of the big challenges that we face is we take yesterdays, or yesteryears stuff into today, and this gives rise to some of our health challenges and certainly contributes to our stress levels. Each morning when you wake you are being given a fresh brand new sparkling clean unlived day. Live in the moment - in awe - in excitement - with new eyes, seeing things different, for they are. Each night give gratitude for this day. Knowing that tomorrow is a brand new one to explore, maybe try again or do something differently.

Moving on from the small intestine and all the decision making, and extracting as much goodies as it can (presuming it is working efficiently and harmoniously) the contents which is now left is basically waste, so moves on through into the large intestine.
Here the large intestine controls the transformation of digestive wastes from liquid to solid state by absorbing the excess water then transports the solids out of the body. It plays a major role in the balance and purity of bodily fluids and, via the meridian system, assists the lungs in controlling the skin's pores and perspiration to assist with this fluid extraction.
The large intestine also depends on the lungs for movement via the expansion and contraction of the diaphragm, working like a pump to give momentum to peristalsis by adapting abdominal pressure. Therefore, good breathing habits allow the bowel function to be regular. Congested lungs and shallow breathing can be the result of sluggishness or blockages in the bowel, meaning that the body is not effective in ridding itself of impurities and waste.
The emotion associated with the large intestine and its meridian partner the lungs is grief. Grieving is a way of processing life by allowing us to let go of the issues and memories associated with the root causes of the grieving we are experience in life. For example, the grieving of the death of a loved one, a pet, a life dream or something else we have held dear, helps us release the factors that involve strong entanglement with that person, pet or thing.
The large intestine’s form of grieving is quite specifically the process of “letting go.” The concept of “letting go” does not really have to involve grief in an active way.
People who have challenges letting go of past hurts, of things or people in their life, who keep telling yesterdays story, reliving the past, or hoarding, will likely have large intestine challenges. It is important to let go of the past, the things that do not serve us, support us or help us grow, or go with the flow, of life processes.
When we are unable to let go of the past we become poisoned – just as the waste in our large intestine poisons us if we cannot let it go. People who have control issues, tend to have “anal-retentive” personalities. This then leads to a tenancy to want to control, and hold on to aspects of our life. The end result can be alternating constipation and diarrhoea, haemorrhoids, and bowel disease and weakness later in life.
As mentioned earlier the large intestine and their partner the lungs are strongly connected with the skin. They control the functioning of the skin and can account for many skin disorders such as eczema or chronic sores, keratin build-up, blemishes, etc. There is a strong relationship between asthma and eczema and large intestine/lung issues.
When the large intestine is healthy and harmonious we are more able to determine if a life situation actually still has as much value for us as it did before, and if not helps us let it go.
So in our 4 parts we have looked a little into the stomach, spleen, small intestine and large intestine, and touch briefly on the lungs and we now have a little more insight in how they work in a less mechanical and more wholistic way. The emotions we have looked at are worry, anxiety, discernment (making good choices) and grief (letting go). The elements we have touched on are earth, fire and metal.
When we are present to ourselves and our life situations (fire- discernment) we are more able to be focused on what we need, which can and will change – earth then metal helps us determine if a life situation still has as much value for us as it did before, and helps us let go of what no longer serves us in this moment.
